RAJKOT: Kishorsinhji School, better known as School No.1 operated and run by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation has been declared heritage value building. Mahatma Gandhi had studied in the school located at Kothariyanaka.
Municipal commissioner Mukeshkumar said, “We were pleading with the Centre to declare it heritage value monument.We got the approval a week back and we are glad.�
Re-construction of schools damaged in the quake is being taken up with the funds given by Karnataka government.
We hope to get Rs 32 lakh needed to re-construct Kishorsinhji School, which was damaged in the quake�, he added.
Authorities would retain the aesthetics of the original building, he said and added, “We would try to reconstruct it as a model. For maintaining its aesthetics, the Karnataka government has sanctioned additional Rs 10 lakh.� Meanwhile, the technical team has decided it to make it a unique building.
“Without making any change in its ‘princely’ looks we will try to make it earth-quake proof �, said retired city engineer Harshad Thakrar, now technical advisor to the Karnataka government.
